Steve Jobs at Apple’s OS 4.0 event today:
“Our 6th tent pole is Game Center. This is a dev preview for OS 4. Gaming is extremely popular on the iPhone and iPod touch. We have 50,000 games. Let’s compare that to the competition… the PSP and DS… we blow them out of the water.”
Social networking for gaming comes to the iPhone, which means achievements, leaderboards and matchmaking for the Jesus Phone. During the event, a bar graph showed that iPhone has over 50,000 titles to go online with, compared with a couple thousand or so for their portable competitors. Open social gaming for a portable device. The future is here! [Go nuts for or against that last sentence]
Game Center will be available in the iPhone OS 4.0 update coming later this summer.
