Time trials are common open-world challenges in Genshin Impact. Completing a time trial usually rewards you with a chest containing Primogems, so it’s generally worth it to do them when you see them.
All time trial locations
To find all time trial locations, it’s best to use the official interactive map so that you can mark them off as you go.
Note that some of these trial locations are underground. If you don’t see a time trial while exploring the surface, see if there’s a cave nearby. Underground time trials are denoted on the map by a small layered icon next to each time trial marker.
If you find yourself blocked off from reaching a certain time trial, see if any world quests are barring your progress. Some areas, particularly in Inazuma and Sumeru, can only be unlocked by progressing your quests.
Types of time trials
Time trials take the form of a red shape floating above a stone pedestal. The shape itself denotes what kind of challenge it is. All of these challenges must be completed within a certain time limit, which will show up at the top of your screen.
An hourglass means you have to make your way to a specific location while collecting elemental particles along the way. This usually involves movement mechanics specific to a region. For example, Mondstadt’s time trials often involve gliding through rings, while Sumeru’s have clover sigils to slingshot yourself forward.
A T-shaped icon denotes a combat challenge where you must defeat an enemy (or several). These are pretty straightforward: kill all enemies, open the chest, profit.
A spindle-shaped icon requires destroying a certain number of targets. These are most often elemental barrels that you can shoot with any bow character, but can also involve other types of targets. You’re not strictly limited to bow characters either – any character works as long as you can destroy the targets. The underwater ones are often accompanied by special Fontemer Aberrants whose abilities you can steal to complete the challenge.
