All LEGO Fortnite game modes, explained

A world all your own!

When creating a world in LEGO Fortnite, there’s a shocking amount of customization players can take advantage of. But, some players might be faced with decision anxiety whilst creating a world, so we wanted to explain what some of the world creation toggles mean, starting with Survival vs. Sandbox mode.

What is Survival Mode in LEGO Fortnite?

In LEGO Fortnite, there are two main game modes: Survival and Sandbox. Survival is exactly what you might be thinking; enemies will be toggled ‘ON,’ you’ll get hungry and be forced to eat to survive, the temperature will affect your character, your movement will be limited by your stamina, etc. It’s a mode where you must learn to survive by taking advantage of LEGO Fortnite’s tools and mechanics.

What is Sandbox Mode in LEGO Fortnite?

Sandbox mode eliminates the need for collecting resources or items, and allows players to spawn anything they need and build structures and tools without resource requirements.

In this mode, by default enemies, hunger and temperature are deactivated, but stamina, elimination, drop inventory upon elimination, friendly creatures, and villagers are left activated. It’s a much more relaxed “creation” mode, similar to other survival games like Minecraft.

Either mode is fine for families

It should be noted you don’t have to go with one mode or the other, and can instead choose to create a fully custom world. Want to go with Survival, but don’t want to deal with hunger? Toggle it off! Want to go with Sandbox, but want to turn on enemies? You’re free to do so!

For any parents who are looking to play with their young children, don’t let this decision weigh too much in the creation of your family’s world. It might be called Survival mode, but by default the game isn’t very difficult and you won’t have to worry about being eliminated all too often in the early game.

Plus, toggling Sandbox mode by default will interrupt the progression of the game’s story, so if you’d like to follow along with that, your best bet will be to create a world with Survival mode as its base. In any case, have fun and get to building your community in LEGO Fortnite!
