All Disney Dreamlight Valley characters and how to unlock them

It takes a village

There are a huge number of characters who can move into the Valley in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and more are added regularly. If you’re just diving into your Disney adventure, or fancy a change and want to start over, learning how to unlock all the Disney Dreamlight Valley characters can feel a little overwhelming.

There are a total of 43 confirmed characters in Disney Dreamlight Valley, including those included as part of the Rift in Time DLC:

  • Base game – 38 characters
  • Rift in Time – 5 characters

In an effort to make things slightly clearer, let’s break down all the characters you can invite to live in your game, how to unlock them, and some other helpful details.

All base game characters in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Some characters are easier to unlock than others, with many only becoming available to unlock once you’ve opened a new area or raised enough Dreamlight to open a door in the castle.

There are 4 characters who are already situated in the Valley as soon as you start a new save file:

  • Mickey Mouse
  • Merlin
  • Goofy
  • Scrooge McDuck

Their houses will already be present (although they can be moved to wherever you like) and they act as your tutorial, helping you wrap your head around the mechanics of the game.

Outside of these four, each of the remaining 34 characters need to be unlocked by completing a certain quest and meeting some prerequisites.

Belle and The Beast

To get Belle and The Beast in your Valley, you’ll need to first unlock the Beauty and the Beast realm inside the castle using 12,500 Dreamlight. Then, you’ll need to complete the “A Prince in Disguise” quest. As soon as you build Beast’s Castle as part of this quest, Belle will move to the Valley, with The Beast following slightly afterward during the final stage of the same quest.

Fairy Godmother

Before you can even think about unlocking the Fairy Godmother and enjoying her bibbidi-bobbidi-boo moments, you’ll need to first restore the various Pillars of the valley:

  • Pillar of Friendship in the Peaceful Meadow
  • Pillar of Power on Dazzle Beach
  • Pillar of Trust in the Glade of Trust
  • Pillar of Nurturing on Sunlit Plateau
  • Pillar of Courage in the Forest of Valor
  • Pillar of Love in Frosted Heights

After restoring them, make sure you’ve unlocked the Forgotten Lands, and as long as both are done you’ll be able to begin a short chain of quests starting with “Miracles Take Time” and ending with “What’s Left Behind”. Once that’s complete, the Fairy Godmother will move into her pumpkin house in the Forgotten Lands.

Mirabel

The main character from Encanto, Mirabel, is relatively easy to unlock, provided you have good luck on your side. To begin her unlock quest, you’ll need to find the Golden Doorknob in the Peaceful Meadow, and then bring her house (Mini-Casita) back to the village during one of Merlin’s friendship quests called “The Golden Doorknob”.

Anna and Elsa

To unlock the two sisters, you’ll need to first unlock the Frozen Realm which costs 4,000 Dreamlight. You’ll then need to work on Anna first, completing her quests “The Spirits of Nature” and “Welcoming Anna”. Then, work to get Anna to friendship level two, and you’ll be able to complete Elsa’s quests “Chasing the Wind” and “Welcoming Elsa”.

Olaf

To unlock everybody’s favorite snow-bodied sidekick, you’ll need to complete the story quest “The Great Blizzard”, which unlocks after you’ve restored the Pillar of Love in Frosted Heights.

Kristoff and Donald

These two are an odd pair to unlock together, but they come as a package for completing the story quest “The Dark Grove”. Before you can do this, you’ll need to complete Merlin’s “Friendship is Everything” quest and unblock the path to the Forest of Valor (3,000 Dreamlight) to find Kristoff hanging out near a portal there. Kristoff will move in with both Anna and Olaf, while Donald’s Houseboat will need to be placed on water.

Stitch

Stitch is thus far the only character whose unlock process is time-gated, so he’s a little awkward to get in the Valley, but he’s cute so we forgive him. To unlock stitch, you’ll need to start by talking to Donald after getting him to level 10 friendship, and then complete the following steps:

  • Complete “The Mystery of the Stolen Socks” quest, then wait five days
  • Complete “The Sock-Stealing Space Alien Strikes Again!” quest, then wait five days
  • Complete “Built to Destroy!” quest

After this, Stitch’s ship will crashland on the beach and you’ll be able to place his house wherever you like and welcome him to the Valley. This process takes a minimum of 10 real-time days.

Vanellope

Vanellope is unlocked by completing a quest called “Faith, Trust, and Pixel Dust”, which itself becomes available after completing Scrooge’s quest “The Haunting of Dreamlight Valley”. Her house is particularly garish, so you may want to have a spot set out where it won’t be seen too much.

Daisy

Daisy Duck was a later addition to Disney Dreamlight Valley, and can only be unlocked after you’ve unlocked Vanellope. Once you’ve completed “Faith, Trust, and Pixel Dust”, Mickey will get a new quest called “You Have Mail!”. He’ll give you Daisy’s house to place down, and when you’ve paid the 20,000 Star Coins necessary, Daisy will move in.

Minnie Mouse

Minnie unlocks during a quest called “Memory Magnification”, which can be picked up from Mickey after you’ve reached friendship level 8 with him and unlocked the path to the Forest of Valor.

Moana will unlock after completing a quest called “How Far You’ll Go”, while Maui will unlock after completing “A Feast Worthy of a Demigod”. They each have their own houses, so make sure you’ve got space for them.

Mike Wazowski and Sulley

Mike and Sulley are unlocked through the Monster’s Inc. Realm, which costs 15,000 Dreamlight to unlock. To get them in your valley, you’ll need to complete two quests – “Escape Claws” and “Eye on the Prize”. Once they’re done, both Mike and Sulley will move into their shared dorm in the Valley.

To get both of these characters, you’ll first need to unlock the Mulan Realm for 15,000 Dreamlight, and then focus on getting Mulan to move to the Valley first by completing a string of quests ending with “Protecting the Camp”. With that done, build her house for 20,000 Star Coins, then go back for Mushu. After completing the “Clearing the Road” quest, he’ll move to the Valley as well.

Remy

Remy will move to the valley after you’ve unlocked the Ratatouille Realm for 3,000 Dreamlight and then completed a quest called “An Important Night at the Restaurant”. After that, all you need to do is build his house for 2,000 Star Coins, and Remy will relocate to the Valley.

  • Complete Merlin’s “With Great Power…” quest
  • Complete Merlin’s “Friendship is Everything” quest
  • Unlock the Glade of Trust for 5,000 Dreamlight

With those all done, you’ll be able to begin the story quest called “The Curse”, which will eventually unlock Mother Gothel.

Unlocking Scar can be done after completing “The Curse” to unlock Mother Gothel. Then, make sure you’ve repaired the Pillars of Friendship, Courage, Power, and Trust to open the way to Scar’s Cave.

To unlock these two proud residents, you’ll need to spend 10,000 Dreamlight to unlock the Lion King Realm in the Dream Castle. Then, complete “Eyes in the Dark” and build Pride Rock for 15,000 Star Coins. With that done, head back to the Lion King Realm to complete “Stars to Guide Us” to unlock Simba.

Timon and Pumbaa

After reaching friendship level 10 with both Simba and Nala, you’ll be able to pick up a quest called “Finding Old Friends” from Simba. This will send you back to the Lion King Realm to find Timon and Pumbaa. Completing two quests (“Relax!” and “Where’s Pumbaa?”) will unlock both of them and have them move to the Valley.

Ariel

To begin the quest to unlock Ariel, you’ll first need to find the Mysterious Paddle on Dazzle Beach. This will unlock a quest called “The Mysterious Wreck” with Goofy. After repairing the wreck, you’ll be able to use it to venture out and meet Ariel, inviting her to move to the Valley.

Ursula

Ursula can be unlocked after completing the story quest “With Great Power…” after unlocking Dazzle Beach for 1,000 Dreamlight. She won’t have her home to begin with, but it can be unlocked during an entirely separate quest called “Lair Sweet Lair”, which is the first one that Ursula herself will give you.

Prince Eric

Unlocking Prince Eric is a little convoluted and might take you a while. First, you’ll need to unlock both Ursula and Ariel and then get Ursula up to level 10 friendship. After this, you’ll unlock a quest called “Poor Unfortunate Prince”. You’ll need to build his house for 10,000 Star Coins, then find a flute inside, and then have Ariel kiss him in order to have him move in.

Tiana can move into the Valley only after you’ve dragged Remy’s friendship level all the way up to level 10. After that, you’ll be able to find the Mysterious Cajun Recipe Book in the Glade of Trust and complete the “A Taste for Literature” quest with Remy.

The Mysterious Cajun Recipe Book will only appear after you’ve done a few things:

  • Repair the Pillar of Trust in the Glade of Trust
  • Moana is unlocked
  • Chez Remy is open and you have access to Milk, Onions, and Rice

Everyone’s favorite space ranger and his deputy are unlocked through the Toy Story Realm, which costs 7,000 Dreamlight to unlock. There are only two quests to complete here (“A Secret Mission in Uncharted Space” and “You’re My Favorite Deputy”) before both characters move in.

Jack Skellington

After unlocking the Fairy Godmother by completing the “Miracles Take Time” quest, a tree with a pumpkin carved into it will appear in the Forgotten Lands. You’ll then need to find four Matyoshka Dolls from around the valley, and place them into the tree to complete the “Something Comes A’Knocking” quest. After building Jack’s house for 5,000 Star Coins, he’ll move in.

All A Rift in Time characters in Disney Dreamlight Valley

It goes without saying that all of these characters require you to have the Rift in Time DLC installed before you can unlock them.

EVE

Once your Royal Pickaxe has been upgraded and you’re able to remove small Copper Rocks, you’ll find EVE on the small island off Ancient’s Landing guarding the Royal Hourglass. You’ll need to complete “The Flying Metal Nuisance” quest, and then deliver a meal to her, but then EVE will leave the Royal Hourglass allowing you to pick it up and have her officially move in.

Unlocking Oswald can only happen after you’ve reached a certain point and done a few things:

  • Complete the final quest of A Rift in Time: Act 1, “Your Eternal Reward”
  • Unlock EVE, Gaston, and Rapunzel and complete their first friendship quests

With that checked off, you can work towards Oswald by picking up the quest “The Sunken Ruins”. You’ll then need to work through the ruins with EVE, Gaston, and Rapunzel, descend into the cave, and find Oswald. After completing a quest called “The Spark of Imagination”, Oswald will join your village.

Jafar

Jafar will be present, on and off, from the beginning of the A Rift in Time story, but he doesn’t unlock until you’ve completed every story quest of Act 1 and Act 2. After that’s done, you’ll get a follow-up quest from Oswald called “The Lesser Evil”, which will allow you to invite Jafar to join you in a less holographic way.
