In space, no one can hear you scream. That didn’t stop millions of Alien fans from howling to the heavens when the latest trailer for Alien: Romulus dropped earlier today. This promising preview introduced us to Romulus‘ cast of young Xenomorph bait and revealed when the film will hit theaters.
Alien: Romulus’ Release Date

Romulus‘ trailer doesn’t pull its punches. It assaults viewers with a marathon of terrifying scenes that prove that the seventh installment of the Alien franchise will return the series to its grungy, claustrophobic roots. After a brutally effective smash cut to the title card, the trailer ends by unveiling the film’s release date, August 16, 2024.
While the release date comes with an “only in theaters” subtitle, the film will likely be available on a streaming service a few months after its big-screen debut. Twentieth Century Studios produced Romulus, so the film will be available to stream on Hulu.
Alien: Romulus Cast is as young as they are vulnerable

Much like the original Alien film, Romulus follows a crew of very unlucky space travelers who stumble upon and fight for their lives against the titular alien predator. The cast of Romulus is quite a bit younger than those featured in other Alien films, with director Fede Álvarez explaining in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter that he wanted to explore the Alien universe through the eyes of young people who are just learning how to navigate the stars.
The cast of Romulus consists almost entirely of talented twenty-something rising stars who have only just started breaking into leading roles in other films, so it will be fascinating to see how this cast compares to the star-studded casts of previous Alien films. Here are all of the actors featured in Romulus.
- Cailee Spaeny – Rain Carradine
- David Jonsson – Andy
- Archie Renaux – Tyler
- Isabela Merced – Kay
- Spike Fearn – Bjorn
- Aileen Wu – Navarro
Romulus’ title has some interesting mythological roots

Alien films have a long history of referencing mythology and religion. Romulus is no exception. The film’s title, which doubles as the name of the abandoned space station our young heroes get trapped on, shares its num-de-plume with the legendary founder of Rome, who, according to the myth, was raised in the wild by a kindly she-wolf after he and his brother Remus were left in the woods to die by their traitorous uncle.
The story of Romulus and the unfortunate fate of Remus is a tale drenched in themes of siblinghood, and Romulus will explore similar ideas. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Alvarez explained that he wanted Romulus‘ core cast to be a sort of “small town found family.” If the founding myth of Rome is an accurate blueprint of Romulus’ story, the horrors these kids encounter might push their familial bond to its breaking point.
