Albania’s Jasir Asani wore Super Mario-themed boots at Euro 2024 and they are awesome

Wahoo!

UEFA’s Euro 2024 football tournament is in full swing, and while the players are all wearing the latest and greatest cleats during matches, Albania’s Jasir Asani caught the eye of gamers everywhere with his special Super Mario-themed boots.

Asani, who players his club football in South Korea with Gwangju FC, sported a pair of teal Puma boots, with Mario himself featured on his left foot, his red hat and mustache instantly recognizable. On it, he’s jumping into the air with his fist up, with coins flying around him.

It should come as no surprise that his right foot showcased Luigi, also jumping for joy, while the inside of both boots featured more gold coins to show how successful the brothers have been.

The boots were designed by Swithadot, and clearly worked their magic, with Asani conjuring up the assist for Albania’s first goal in their 2-2 draw with Croatia on June 19. Clearly, Asani is a big fan of the franchise and showed off his love on one of football’s biggest stages.

And what better time to do it too, with a brand-new game in the franchise announced during June 18’s Nintendo Direct. Mario and Luigi reunite for the first time in nine years in Brothership, with the trailer showing off the new world, mini-games in battles, and the classic platforming experience that we expect from Nintendo’s flagship.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership releases worldwide on Nintendo Switch on November 7. Let’s hope that Asani finds time to play it as the K League 1 reaches its conclusion.
