Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 is kicking off next January, and I’m already looking forward to its arrival. Mostly, that’s because the event organizers announced not only the AGDQ 2025 schedule, but it plans on having a live band play during a Crazy Taxi speedrun.
Naturally, most folks would be excited to hear about the return of AGDQ and its week of speedruns for charity. I am as well, but as an old Sega fan, I can’t help but admit that the news caused a double-take that nearly gave me whiplash. The Crazy Taxi speedrun is scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, January 11, with a live rock band covering songs from the soundtrack. Hopefully, we get the “yeah-yeahs,” as it ain’t no Crazy Taxi without a bit of The Offspring. That’s not an opinion.
AGDQ 2025 will host more speedy games for charity
The Crazy Taxi run isn’t the only highlight of AGDQ 2025 if you can believe it. According to the release, AGDQ 2025 will showcase the event’s first Astro Bot run on PlayStation 5. The playful, gorgeous game is a natural fit for speedrunning, so its inclusion is no surprise. There will also be a randomizer run of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo Wii, and a one-on-one race in Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.
AGDQ 2025, organized by Games Done Quick, is once more benefiting the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Earlier in the year, AGDQ 2024 brought in a whopping $2.5 million for the nonprofit organization. The event earned a lot of attention, with many tuning in to watch a dog named Peanut Butter speedrun Gyromite. To date, Games Done Quick has raised over $50 million for charity.
The 24-hour-a-day event will run from January 5 to January 12. You can participate by watching it on its official Twitch and YouTube channels.
