A trio of obscure but rad Famicom Jaleco games are coming to Switch

Totally rad, you might say.

City Connection has announced via Twitter (thanks, Time Extension) that theyā€™re bringing three games from Jalecoā€™s Famicom catalog to the Nintendo Switch as part of the JALECOlle, er, collection. These are joining Bio Warrior Dan (which was released this week), Yokai Club, and Pinball Quest. One of the announced games never made it to North America, and the other two did with entirely redone graphics.

The games are Saiyuuki World, Pizza Pop, and Magic John. Saiyuuki World did make it to the NES, and that was by completely changing the visuals to make Whomp ā€™Em. The same goes for Magic John, which was localized as Totally Rad. 1992ā€™s Pizza Pop never did, however.

Pizza Pop, Iā€™m mostly familiar with through Game Center CX. I remember immediately looking it up after watching the episode, but a loose cartridge goes for upwards of $100 Canadian loonies. Thatā€™s partially why this announcement caught my attention, Iā€™ve wanted to play it myself ever since witnessing Arino power through it.

The City Connection ports will likely follow the JALECOlle format, which are essentially enhanced ROMs. Beyond just playing the game, they have a bunch of quality-of-life additions. Previous releases also included subtitles, which is a pretty nifty way of handling translation without having to edit the gameā€™s character sets.

As Iā€™ve mentioned, thereā€™s no word on whether or not these games will make it to Switch in North America. Previous games in the JALECOlle series have made it over here, so Iā€™d say the chances are very high that weā€™ll see them.

Saiyuuki World, Pizza Pop, and Magic John are coming to Switch, but no release date has been announced.
