How to find Cold and Warm Pigs in Minecraft

For the first time since Minecraft’s creation, we have new pig types to find, breed, and befriend. Although we’ve had different sheep colors and cow variants for ages, pigs are now in the spotlight with the addition of Warm and Cold pigs. Here’s how to find these new mobs.

How to find new Pig types in Minecraft

Minecraft’s new Cold and Warm pig types are only available in the game’s 25w02a Snapshot and beyond. If you haven’t downloaded these Minecraft versions, you’ll need to create a new installation in Java Edition or select the latest Preview/Release in Bedrock.

Updating Minecraft Java Edition

To go into more detail, here are the steps for updating Minecraft Java Edition:

1. Open Minecraft.
2. Log into your Microsoft account.
3. Select Java Edition and open your Installations menu.
4. Download the 25w02a Snapshot or 1.22 and beyond.
5. Select the Snapshot or 1.22+ version and play Minecraft.

Depending on when you play Minecraft, 1.22 and beyond may already be released, allowing you to experience it in its entirety. Otherwise, you’ll need to download the Snapshot and find the Cold and Warm pigs through it.

Updating Minecraft Bedrock Edition

Similarly, here are the steps to accessing the Cold and Warm pig updates for Bedrock Edition:

1. Open Minecraft.
2. Log into your Microsoft account.
3. Select Bedrock Edition.
4. Open your Releases list and select Latest Preview for the Snapshot and Latest Release for the full version.
5. Start playing Minecraft.

The steps beyond this with enabling Data Packs and testing new features will depend on your platform, which you can find detailed instructions for on the official Minecraft help page. If 1.22 is already out on Minecraft Bedrock, you can skip these extra steps and just download the game’s latest release.

With that done, you’re ready to find some Warm and Cold pigs. Regular pigs spawn anywhere, while these two types have particular biomes they prefer.

Cold pig location

Cold pigs spawn exclusively in cold biomes. Although Minecraft doesn’t have many of these, you’ll primarily find them in taiga biomes, including snowy and non-snowy variants. Generally speaking, any region with snow and ice will have good odds of spawning in a group of Cold pigs.

Warm pig location

Warm pigs, on the other hand, spawn in biomes that are usually considered hot in temperature. Below are some biomes you can expect to find groups of Warm pigs:

• Savanna
• Jungle
• Bamboo Jungle
• Desert

While any warm region will do the trick for finding these pigs, you’ll have the easiest time locating them in jungles and savanna biomes. More often than not, you’ll also find normal pig variants wandering around in similar locations.

Like usual, you’ll find regular pigs in just about any biome, giving you free rein to explore the world as you please and encounter them on your travels. By the time you locate Cold and Warm pigs, you’ll likely spot a few regular pigs, too.
