Kohei Horikoshi, My Hero Academia mangaka, is working on next manga

The globally renown manga franchise My Hero Academia released its final chapter last August. While its conclusion received mixed reception, it’s only proof that the series has many fans. Fortunately for the fans, it seems like My Hero Academia won’t be the last Kohei Horikoshi manga.

Despite the manga’s ten-year run, Horikoshi hasn’t had his fill of creating manga. In fact, he revealed in an interview with Marvel that he is already slowly working on his next project.

Kohei Horikoshi’s love for western superheroes is very apparent in his work in My Hero Academia. In fact, some of the main characters’ attacks are named after American states. To celebrate the manga’s final volume release and to give back to comic book fans worldwide, Marvel and Weekly Shonen Jump collaborated in an art exchange featuring beloved characters from both media.

However, Horikoshi doesn’t simply provide beautiful artwork from All Might and Deku with the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. He also revealed his plans for his next project:

“I feel really lucky over the success of MHA, so I know there’s a lot of pressure around my next move. I’m planning to start a new manga as soon as I possibly can.

“I was thinking to committing myself to simply drawing my next project, and letting someone else write the story, but my editor advised me ‘It will be better if you do it all yourself.’ With that in mind, I’ve slowly started writing and drawing the thumbnails of my next manga. However, there are still several events left surrounding MHA, so for a while I’ll still be committed to supporting and promoting it.”
