In news that could only be described as “f*cking obvious,” the official European version of Call of Duty: Black Ops has been banned in Germany. Previously, a heavily edited version was created for the nanny state, which will be the only version Steam will authorize in the country.

This basically means importing the PC version of the game will be next to impossible through Steam. Personally, I recommend you import a console version, and I really hope plenty of Germans do it as well, because the restrictions are ridiculous.

The edited version removes and tones down scenes, censors “anti-constitutional symbols” and even takes out the Rolling Stones song “Sympathy For The Devil” because of its subject material. In short, it’s going to be a pretty crappy version of the game that customers will still be expected to pay inflated European prices for.

Next time I meet a German gamer, the drinks are on me.
