APB is a strange beast. Not quite an MMO, not quite not an MMO and definitely costing money, it’s hard to determine if the game is going to be worth your hard earned cash on a consistent basis. If you’ve been on the fence about picking it up, maybe some news on how it will be constantly updated with new content throughout the year will help to ease your worries. In a recent roundtable EJ Moreland, lead designer at Realtime Worlds, discussed the company’s plans for expansions and new DLC for APB.
I can’t speak to a specific schedule, we’re still working out the details on how we’re going to that. But basically the plan is that throughout the year we’re going to release both what we call “content updates” which are new missions, new clothing assets, new weapons, new vehicles… basically new things for the players to earn, customize or experience. And then we have much larger updates which will come less frequently, which we call “Activity Updates.” And the point of the “Activity Updates” is to introduce new gameplay or new rulesets, or new larger additions to the game, and those will be less frequent than content updates. And then, probably once ever year or so, we’ll also do a retail event which will be an expansion which basically opens up a whole new element to the game.
How about it? The promise of plenty of new content on a regular basis sway you towards the game or are you still not sold? If you need some more prompting you can check out our preview as well.
