Fans of game music will want to check out PBS on July 31st to see a special presentation of the Video Games Live concerts. The station is going to feature a 90-minute special that will show new, live performances of music from our favorite games. Among the included soundtracks represented, you can expect to hear songs from the Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Halo, Warcraft, Final Fantasy, Castlevania, God of War, Civilization, Chrono Cross, StarCraft and Guitar Hero franchises. There’s also a musical journey through classic gaming for you retro fans.
There’s also going to be a CD and DVD/Blu-ray release that PBS will distribute. The movie side will feature three hours of bonus material included game dev and composer interviews, trailers, and behind-the-scenes footage.
A sneak peek into all of this will come to Bay Area and Northern California residents that have access to PBS station KQED. They’ll show the special on Monday, June 7th at 7:30 p.m., so be sure to check it out if you’re in that area.
For the rest of us this trailer from PB is going to have to hold you over. Somehow this trailer makes the show look more epic than the live VGL performances I’ve seen. Don’t miss the headbanging cellist.
