Hey, RPG nerds! Good news: Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey is great. I’ve been playing the hell out of it, working on a preview for Destructoid (coming soon). This dark sci-fi RPG for the DS has me hooked. If you like SMT, you’ll definitely love this. That said, the change of pace and setting is fresh. Good work, Atlus.
It might sound like I’m pulling this out of my ass because it’s relevant, but I’m being sincere: the music in Strange Journey is incredible. I had no idea what to expect going in, though. The first day I got my review code, I started playing late one night with headphones on. It only took a second for me to reach for the volume switch to turn it up. Some of the most fu*ked up noises I’ve ever heard a DS make are in this soundtrack. It’s dark and creepy, and fits pefectly with the story and setting. I didn’t know composer Shoji Meguro had this dark side to his music.
Atlus sends word that they’re going to package Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey with the soundtrack on CD. So kind of them, as always. And they also want to let you know that there’s a new release date: March 23, 2010. Hey, if I’m playing it already, what’s the hold up?
