According to Activision’s own projections, Call of Duty: Black Ops is expected to sell 20% fewer copies than last year’s Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare 2. That’s what Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz says, having looked at the evil publishers Q3 results.
According to Creutz, Activision’s results assumed that “the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops comps negatively against last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, despite the fact that on several pre-release metrics cited by management Black Ops is tracking ahead of MW2.”
I’ve noted before how Black Ops seems to have been given a lot less hype than Modern Warfare 2, to the point where I was even surprised the game launches tomorrow. I had MW2‘s release date etched in my brain long before launch. Of course, my brain is no indication of sales, otherwise Metal Arms would have gotten a sequel by now.
Guess we’ll just have to see how the results roll in.
