A member of Sega’s forums pointed out to us that the company is planning on rewarding customers that plan on picking up two or more versions of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 as it releases of the next week. They say that they’re appreciating loyal fans through a thread that will let these fans post pictures to confirm which versions of the game they own. Here’s what they’re looking to do in recognition of how many copies fans buy:

  • Two versions: Fan will be included in a special sticky thread on Sega/Sonic 4 sites. Will also be posted on Sega blogs and the Sonic 4 website
  • Three versions: All the above and placement on a to-be-announced “very cool spot”
  • All versions: All the above as well as a special shout-on on video, from Sega, to be posted on YouTube and around the internet.

The picture posting thread will be unlocked on Monday.

I see this as a fun and harmless way to thank loyal fans and regular Sega forum members. It’s a really nice (and easy) way of recognizing repeat purchases. Some, like our unnamed tipster, feel like this is a shameless way of convincing people to give Sega more money.

How do you see it, Destructoid reader? Note that the Sega forums are really only frequented by a loyal set of Sega fans, so keep that in mind as you weigh in.
