Yesterday, THQ announced that it would be publishing Double Fine’s first downloadable game for Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network, Costume Quest, on October 31.
But what you might have missed is that THQ will be publishing not one, but two downloadable titles which Double Fine has in the works. The second title, an unnamed third-person adventure game, will be released in early 2011.
“Delivering high-quality content across a variety of digital distribution platforms is an important growth initiative for us,” says Executive Vice President of THQ Kids, Family, Casual Games and Global Online Services, Martin Good, “and we are pleased to do so with two titles whose potential appeal could encompass both hardcore and casual players.”
“We wanted to make a big impression with these, our first downloadable games ever,” said Double Fine’s Tim Schafer of the partnership with THQ. “So we are coming out swinging with two great adventures from two of the most creative minds in the company.”
The first, Costume Quest, is the baby of Double Fine lead animator Tasha Harris. It’s an adventure/role-playing title that sees a group of friends attempting to rid their neighborhood of monsters. While wearing costumes. On Halloween. By collecting candy and stuff. Yeah, this sounds awesome.
