Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto responded to a question that he had to know was coming in a Q&A session yesterday evening. Two years ago at the very same session an attendee asked him about a sequel to Pikmin, and Miyamoto said that one was in the works. Now, two years later, the sequel has yet to be announced.

Miyamoto responded,  “We are making Pikmin, rest assured.”

He recalled that in March he was in the UK to receive a BAFTA award for his work, and it was during an interview there that he confirmed that a Pikmin sequel was in the works.  The news quickly spread and got out of control, and now Miyamoto was disappointed at how out of hand it became.

The famed game maker also said that E3 2010 wasn’t the best time to show off a new Pikmin anyway. He pointed out that this new Pikmin would not get the full attention he would want it to among the strong line-up of titles they have at the show this year.

So, it’s coming. Just not now.
