You might not care much for anime in general, but Legend of the Galactic Heroes is one of the most epic anime of them all. It’s a grand space opera that has been running for nearly twenty-eight years (since 1982), and a powerful sci-fi property in its own right, standing easily among western-produced peers. It featured some of the most gratuitous of gratuitous space battles, with fleet actions involving tens of thousands of starships. If you consider yourself a sci-fi fan, you should at least try to watch it.
And now it’s getting a game. Or rather, another game, since Namco Bandai released a real-time strategy adaptation back in 2008. You can check out a trailer for it below the cut. It’s like someone took Homeworld and increased the ship count by several orders of magnitude, then married the result to Sins of a Solar Empire.
Unfortunately, like the show itself, that game stands little chance of making it into the English-speaking market. What you might get is Japanese game company GameOn’s planned browser-based online offering. Concrete details are scant, but just because it’s browser-based doesn’t automatically mean it’ll be like, Legend of the Galactic Farmville or something.
Right?
