Let’s list and rank all traits in the game based on how effective they are for all units. I’ll show you which traits are the best for each unit so that you can craft the perfect build. Here’s my complete Horror Tower Defense traits tier list.
I’ll rank traits from best to worst across S, A, B, C, and D Tiers based on both raw power and how effective and flexible they are for all units. Each entry will also have the trait’s roll chance, effect, reasoning for why it’s there, and tips on which units work best with each trait. Note that rerolling a unit’s trait will replace its current trait with a new one. Here’s a quick rundown like in our units tier list, and then we’ll discuss each tier in detail:
S-Tier: Godly, Ethereal.
A-Tier: Lightspeed, Warrior, Perspicacity.
B-Tier: Damage III, Swiftness III, Hunter III, Elevated.
C-Tier: Damage II, Swiftness II, Hunter II, Experienced III.
D-Tier: Damage I, Swiftness I, Hunter I, Experienced II/I.
S Tier HTD Traits
Godly
0.15% Roll
+75% Damage, -35% Cooldown & +25% Range
The most powerful trait in the game that you shouldnever reroll on any unit. If you get this on Dracula or Golden Freddy you’re set for life. But it essentially kicks ass on any unit.
Ethereal
0.35% Roll
+30% Damage, -20% Cooldown & +15% Range
The same goes for Ethereal. While it’s weaker than Godly, it’s still the second-best trait in the game that you should keep on any unit.
A Tier HTD Traits
Lightspeed
1.5% Roll
Reduces cooldown by -20%
This is incredible on low attack-speed units like Foxy or Herbot and drastically increases their damage-per-second by making up for their slow cooldowns. Similar to S Tier, never reroll A Tier traits.
Warrior
1% Roll
Increases damage by 25%
This is amazing on Puppet and Burntrap to make up for their lower damage but you’re also happy to have it on any high DPS AOE unit to ensure that you delete groups of tankier enemies.
Perspicacity
1.25% Roll
Increases range by 25%
Perspicacity is best on units with powerful abilities that depend on range like the Slasher/Golden Slasher for that massive AOE stun.
B Tier HTD Traits
Damage III
8.25% Roll
Increases damage by 17.5%
B Tier is the last set of traits that I wouldn’t really reroll unless you’re swimming in Gems. Especially for Damage III, which is useful for any unit.
Swiftness III
7.5% Roll
Reduces Cooldown by -15%
Great on the same set of units as Lightspeed.
Hunter III
6% Roll
Increases range by 17.5%
Similar to Perspicacity but slightly weaker, which is why it’s in a lower Tier. Still, all B Tier traits are quite good for any unit.
Elevated
2% Roll
Increases XP earned by 25%
I personally don’t like the EXP buff traits, as I would rather have damage or cooldown reduction on a unit. That said, if you get Elevated on a lower-level powerful unit like Dracula, Freddie, or any Nightmare or Exclusive unit, keep it for a while until you level them up then reroll it.
C Tier HTD Traits
Damage II
8.5% Roll
Increases damage by 15%
A decent damage buff that you can keep on Haunted Skeletons and Zombies since they’re best starters, but reroll on Mythics, Exclusives, and Nightmares. Don’t keep this on Dracula or he’ll be insulted.
Swiftness II
7.75% Roll
Reduces Cooldown by -10%
Keep on Rares, but reroll for higher tier units.
Hunter II
6.5% Roll
Increases range by 15%
A decent damage buff that you can keep on Haunted Skeletons and Zombies since they’re best starters, but reroll on Mythics, Exclusives, and Nightmares. Don’t keep this on Dracula, or he’ll be insulted.
Experienced III
8% Roll
Increases XP earned by 15%
Same as with Elevated but weaker, use it to level up powerful units on easier levels and then reroll it for better traits.
D Tier HTD Traits
Damage I
8.75% Roll
Increases damage by 10%
Unless you’re just starting out, I would reroll this as well.
Swiftness I
8.75% Roll
Reduces Cooldown by -5%
Reroll for something better.
Hunter I
7% Roll
Increases range by 10%
Reroll for something better.
Experienced I, II
9%/8.5% Roll
Increases XP Earned by 5%/10%
Unless you’re just starting out I would reroll this as well.
