Rita's Revenge co-op issues switch delayed

PSA: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind tech issues will hamper co-op play at launch, Switch version delayed

No-go, Power Rangers.

The December 10 launch of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind will sadly not go as planned, the developer confirmed. Cooperative play in Rita’s Rewind will be limited for the game on all platforms at launch, and the Switch version has been delayed by over two weeks.

Dan Amrich, the content editor at developer Digital Eclipse, announced the news on November 27. Amrich writes that “technical issues” will keep online co-op to two players only for PlayStation and Steam users. Folks on Xbox and Switch will be stuck with couch co-op until the feature is enabled “within a few weeks.” Amrich also revealed that “unforeseen circumstances” will move the Switch version of the game to December 19.

“The good news is we expect to have two-player online play for those platforms available within a few weeks followed by support for additional players for all versions soon after,” Amrich wrote in a message on the Digital Eclipse website. “Also, offline play won’t be affected; Rita’s Rewind remains fully playable with friends & family in couch co-op mode.”

Rita’s Rewind co-op issues should get resolved soon

As Amrich explained, online cooperative play should be restored within a month following launch ā€” but only for two players. The developer planned to have co-op play ready for up to five players, but that won’t materialize for some time. Although a patch to increase the number of players is on the docket, Digital Eclipse confirmed on X.

It’s rough, but launch issues aren’t exactly a new hat for the industry. A few weeks to wait for a feature is hardly the kind of punch-in-the-gut players have dealt with before. Besides, patience is a virtue. Having played Rita’s Rewind myself, I feel that it has the potential to become the Power Rangers game fans deserved back in the ’90s. I’m good to wait a bit to tackle Robo Rita and her monster hoards with four friends. Until then, I’ll be fine with bringing along one ally so long as they know the rules on the Green Ranger ā€” he’s mine.
