Deepwoken has a three-lives system that can end in permadeath if you die multiple times and donāt escape the Depths. That said, you can avoid permadeath in a couple of ways and even get extra lives. Hereās what happens when you die in Deepwoken and how to escape the Depths.

What Happens If You Die In Deepwoken ā How to Revive
Hereās how death, extra lives, and revival works in Deepwoken:
- First Death: The first time you die, you lose around half of your Notes and a portion of your gear, and your HP turns rusty.
- Extra Life: You can get an extra life back after your first death if you increase your Power (level up).
- Second Death: Protect your second life until you level up because if you die a second time, you go to the Depths. This is a dangerous area with a lot of high-level monsters that can end in permadeath if you donāt escape.
- Revival: If you escape the Depths, you can fully revive your character with all your lives back. Iāll show you how to escape the Depths below.
- Third Death: If you die in The Depths, you go to a purgatory area called Fragments of Self. Here, youāll lose your character permanently unless you use the statue to revive with Robux. This is also where youāll be able to transfer equipment to your next character and use your Echoes to upgrade future characters permanently. More on that later, but once you talk to āyourself,ā you permanently die and can make a new character and even roll a newĀ race.
- Robux Revival: In the Fragments of Self area, you can approach and interact with the stone statue before talking to āyourselfā. Itāll give you the option to fully revive your character by paying Robux. You can only do this method of revival once per character, and itās only available if youāre at least Power 1.
You also go to the Depths automatically if you enter a Whirlpool, get killed by the Primadon or by the Hollow, and a few other ways. Letās now talk about how to escape the Depths as well as Echoes and other useful tips.
How to Escape the Depths in Deepwoken
As soon as you spawn in the Depths, take a good look around first to see if any monsters are nearby. This is because theyāre high-level enemies with the exception of the small jellyfish. I recommend avoiding combat here at lower Power levels and instead focusing on escaping. Speaking of which, open your map with M. Your goal will be to reach the city area, ring two bells, and escape through the final center gate, where you can revive your character.
Start heading to the city towards one of the gates I marked. You want to reach the east part of the city to escape. Avoid monsters and if one does chase you and you canāt escape, use the Roblox menu to log out (Donāt Alt+F4) and log back into another server. Once you reach the city, do the following:
- Step 1: You need to go inside two Bell Towers that I marked on the map above and ring the bells inside by interacting with them. The guards arenāt hostile but avoid combat in the city and just focus on rushing to the towers. Theyāre both on the east side of the city, and I recommend going there by hopping from roof to roof. You can also hear bells, which helps with navigation.
- Step 2: Once you ring both Bells, rush to the Final Gate I marked, which will now be open.
- Step 3: Go through the gate and onto the lift; pull the lever, and youāll fully revive. Sometimes, youāll have to face a 1v1 match against an enemy NPC here. Itās not that hard, and you just need to parry and dodge them while counter-attacking for the win.
Once you complete the Depths, your character will be restored with all lives and equipment.
What Are Echoes in Deepwoken
If you die in the Depths, youāll spawn in the Fragments of Self area, where you can wipe your character, spend Echoes, and go into character creation again. That is unless you revive them one last time using Robux at the statue. Echoes are a special currency you get for permanent upgrades once your character wipes. The more you progress in the game with your character, the more Echoes you get to spend for permanent upgrades.
Echo upgrades include stat bonuses for new characters, more weapons to start, increasing damage and Resonance, and a lot more. You canāt go wrong with damage upgrades first. That said, Resonance upgrades are also an optimal option.
Furthermore, I usually spend all my Echoes unless Iām saving 40 to transfer a Legendary or Enchanted item. More on that later. Upgrades can cost from 25 to 50 echoes and increase as you upgrade, and there’s a special one for 500 Echoes. The full list is displayed when you wipe where you can buy these upgrades.
How to Use the Hippocampal Pool
The Hippocampal Pool is used for transferring items to your next character. It can be found across a set of stone platforms you can jump over in the Fragments of Self area. It can be a bit confusing since not all items can be transferred. This is a list of items you canāt transfer:
- Training Items
- Food
- Ingredients
- Dwelling Charm
- Relics
I mostly use it to transfer armor, weapons, and rings. Note that transferring Enchanted or Legendary items will cost you 40 Echoes. Lastly, while you can originally transfer only 2 items, you can upgrade this amount to 6 with Echo upgrades.
Should You Revive Using Robux in Deepwoken?
You can only revive the same character once using Robux so I wouldn’t do it if you are below Power 10 or even 15. Powering up is not that hard once you know where to farm, which you can check in our beginner’s guide. Even then, consider do you have any Legendary items or Enchants or are far into an Oath. If you are below Power 10 and don’t have these valuable items, it’s a waste to pay Robux to revive.
