Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link has been officially delayed to an unknown date

Missing Link has been missing for quite a while...

2024 has been a rough year for fans of the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Not only has Square Enix released no further updates on Kingdom Hearts IV, but the upcoming mobile game Missing Link has completely disappeared after the launch of its Closed Beta, even though it was originally going to come out sometime this year.

In a bittersweet turn of events, the company behind this popular franchise finally let fans know what happened with Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link. The game’s official Twitter/X account released a statement, finally confirming that Square Enix delayed its release. Unfortunately, it didn’t reveal any more information, so Missing Link’s release date is currently unknown. Nevertheless, we are 100% sure that it won’t launch in 2024, so it’s most likely going to come out sometime in 2025.

On a more positive note, the account also took its time to apologize to all players who were looking forward to the release and stated that it appreciates their patience. Another important thing to notice is that the statement concludes with the sentence “Please look forward to further information”, which may hint that Square Enix is planning to reveal more Missing Link content in the near future, especially next year.

Kingdom Hearts fans are anything but impatient and, while some people are understandably disappointed with this delay, most fans were also quite grateful to finally receive confirmation that Missing Link is not coming out in 2024. After all, it’s very common for new games in this series to take a long time to come out.

For example, Square Enix originally announced Kingdom Hearts 3 in 2013, a game that it later delayed and wouldn’t come out until January 2019. On a similar note, the company revealed the next mainline entry in the series, Kingdom Hearts IV, alongside Missing Link back in 2022, and it still hasn’t received any real updates ever since. Fans have been waiting for a brand-new trailer for over 2 years.

Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link is a bit different, however, because this augmented reality mobile RPG did get a few more updates since its initial announcement, including a second trailer back in October 2023, which announced its Closed Beta and confirmed its official release year as 2024. Unfortunately, after the Closed Beta received some fairly positive reviews, Square Enix lapsed into total radio silence and fans began wondering what could have happened. This is why it was crucial for the company to confirm the game’s delay, which most fans certainly appreciated.
