Dragon Age: The Veilguard does not attempt to hide the fact that the most exciting part of the story is waiting towards the end, and you’ll have to make some critical decisions with your brains along with your hands.
The final few episodes require you to make a choice. While there are no right or wrong choices here, the decision you make will impact the ending of BioWare’s latest RPG for you. Once you make a decision, there’s no turning back whatsoever, so let’s take a look at what to expect from every decision you’ll have to make in the endgame.
Disclaimer: There are spoilers present in this article. I have tried to keep it as minimal as possible, but learning about the decision options itself are spoilers. Hence, reader discretion is advised.
All Endgame quests in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Before delving further into all possible decisions to make, let’s take a look at the quests.
- Send Harding or Davrin to lead the Second Team
- Choose between Leve or Bellara to take down the Magic Shield
- Who should do each job in the Last Gambit (this can be broken down into sub-parts. All the steps are explained in detail in the following section).
- Pick whom to send to help the Factions
- Trick or fight Solas
Before you approach the late game stages, there are a few words of caution. You’ll have to ensure that every faction has at least two stars. Additionally, every character will have to be a Hero of the Veilguard (which means that all the quests must be completed).
Otherwise, I don’t see how you’ll be able to complete the final quests in Dragon Age: The Veilguard without enduring endless frustration. Also, it will, in all likelihood, trigger the bad ending, if you can somehow make it to the final showdown against Solas.
Quest | Quest Options | Outcomes |
---|---|---|
Choosing leader of the second team | You’ll have to pick between Harding and Davrin as potential leader of the second team. Both characters have their respective strengths and weakness. Harding is a good all-round character, but lacks that specialized damage potential. Davrin has fire attacks, but so does Taash. Whoever you pick will not be available for use during the remainder of the game. | No matter which decision you make, there will be casualties. Based on my research, there’s no way to alter this outcome. As for making your pick, you can simply use your personal preferences. I chose to Harding, as there’s a better way to use Davrin. Choose who will take down the Magic Shield | Like the last step, whoever you choose will become unavailable for the rest of the game. For this step, always decide based on your build. In simpler words, you’ll want to keep the one who complements your subclass and their specialization. That said, Bellara’s Electric damage and Galvanizing Tear is highly useful. Your decision at this step will also have effects on your next course of action. | The one you select will be captured by Elgar’nan. But they can be rescued later, and they certainly don’t have to die. |
Candidate for Last Gambit | You’ll get to pick whom you’ll take in the battle with you. Make sure to concentrate on the role and if your selected candidates fit into it. They should also be Heroes of the Veilguard and the faction must have two stars. If your chosen candidate is not a Heroes of the Veilguard, their faction will need three stars. To help the Veil Jumpers, anyone between Emmrich, Bellara, or Never is a good choice. For the Venatori Mages, Lucanis is the best choice if you sent sent Neve in the second task. For this task, you’ll be relying on Lords of Fortune, and either Antivan Crows or the Shadow Dragons. To disable the Juggernaut construct, you can send either Taash or Bellara (or Taash by default if Bellara gets captured). You’ll be assisting the Grey Wardens faction. | Just make the selections based on the recommendations |
Pick who gets to hold off Elgar’nan’s forces | One of your party members will have to stay back with Morrigan and the other forces to hold off Elgar’nan’s Darkspawn army. Both Davrin and Taash are good choices, and whoever you pick will no longer face the final boss with you. | Davrin is actually the best choice, and he should make it out alive if he’s a Hero of the Veilguard. |
Trick or fight Solas | The last chapter can be slightly confusing, as the decisions don’t work out like you expect them to do. If you have witnessed all the memories and fought Mythal, you can convince Solas to willingly bind himself to the Veil. This is the happy ending in my books. You can obviously choose to fight him, but there’s no combat. This will result in Solas being forced into the Veil. You can also use the fake dragger to trick him, and Solas will end up trapped in the Veil. | Just ensure that your companions are all Heroes of the Veilguard. This will minimize casualties, and prevent the only negative outcome from happening. |
If you follow the steps and instructions, you’ll also unlock The Ones That Last trophy/achievement, as you have kept the casualties to the minimum. This trophy/achievement is unlocked right before you get to trick/fight Solas. The outcome of the final episode of Dragon Age: The Veilguard won’t affect the outcome at all.
Additionally, relying on the enemies and their weak spots will also help you enjoy a clear path to the final quest. If you’re confused about what weak points are and how they work, make sure to check out our guide.
