How to unlock Vinh’s phone in Chapter 2 of Life is Strange: Double Exposure

There are secrets within

Vinh is a strange character in Life is Strange: Double Exposure. He’s the leader of Abraxas, and hated by Diamond, but our personal encounters with him don’t back up what others say about him.

Sure, he’s a little smarmy, but does that mean he’s a bad person? The answer to this remains to be seen, but step one to finding out comes in Chapter 2 of Double Exposure. Having retrieved his lost phone in the Living World, Vinh has forgotten his own pass code and can’t unlock it. Now it’s up to Max to figure it out.

After approaching Vinh in his office in the Living World, you’ll find out that he can’t get into his phone. He’ll give you a single hint: the pass code is the year that a ‘magician scientist’ died. With that hint in the back of your mind, it’s time to venture to the Dead World, because you can’t do anything else in the Living World for now. To get there, head into the corridor and find the portal to the right of the stairs.

Once you’re in the Dead World, head back to Vinh’s office and find him on the sofa to your right. He’s day-drinking, and will ask Max to join him (the details for each option can be found below), before the topic of conversation moves onto the magician scientist.

You have two choices here:

  • Use the favor that Dead World Vinh owes you to get the pass code
  • Don’t use the favor and figure it out yourself

I’d recommend holding on to your favor, as the answer to this pass code puzzle is very easy to find.

After some discussion, you’ll be free to head to the library to find out when the magician scientist died. To get this information, head to shelf B6 in the column by the window, and pick up “History of the Occult”. Reading this will give you the year in which the scientist died: 1952

Now that you have the pass code, head back to the Living World via the portal in the corridor, and find Vinh’s phone on his desk. He’s nowhere in sight, giving you some time to snoop through the contents of his gallery, and what you discover there might come as a surprise.

Should you drink with Vinh in Life is Strange: Double Exposure?

Having found Vinh sipping on Whiskey-spiked Coffee, he’ll invite Max to join him. This will spark a decision for Max, which will have consequences that remain to be seen. You can either choose to drink with Vinh, or choose not to. Either way, you’ll still get the information you need to progress this part of the story.

Drink with Vinh (Be sexy)

Drinking with Vinh will enable him to open up to you in a way that he hasn’t done so far, and earn a little of his trust. He’ll tell you about some of his past, and what he was like in high-school.

Importantly, one of the achievements in Double Exposure involves having a romantic relationship with Vinh. It’s possible that this is the starting point for that plot-line, so if you want to go that route, this might be the right option.

Don’t drink with Vinh (Don’t be sexy)

Although the outcome of the situation will remain the same, not drinking with Vinh will prevent him from opening up to you and leave him less trustful. And if you want to possibility to date Vinh in future, I’d advise not taking this option.
