The 10 Best Characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, Ranked

Did your main make the list?

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero allows players to emulate some of the franchises’ biggest battles while picking from a massive roster of 182 characters, which believe it or not, only features 20 Gokus and 14 Vegetas.

But given the large number of familiar faces, it was expected that a few characters would set themselves apart, even if one of them might surprise even the biggest fans. Here are the 10 best characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, ranked.

10. Goku (GT)

One of the most well-known characters within his DP range, Goku (GT) has the auto-evasions courtesy of Afterimage Strike as his biggest strength. But don’t go thinking that’s all he brings to the field, as the skill only potentializes his all-rounder kit, which features fairly quick normals, a great combo finisher in Dragon First, and the ability to transform into both Super Saiyan 3 and 4 for a massive dose of extra damage.

9. Beerus

Justifying his massive 10 DP cost in team battles, Beerus boasts all the health, speed, and damage you can expect of a character of his position, the latter of which is shown by his Super Sphere of Destruction Ultimate Blast. To add to that, his ability to recover around one and a half health bars by performing the fairly expensive Speep and instantly enter Sparking by performing Verdict of Destruction makes the ruler an all-rounder manace.

8. Broly (Z) Legendary Super Saiyan

What I consider to be the closest thing Sparking Zero has to a grappler, the Legendary Super Saiyan version of Broly (Z) is unstoppable at close range, as his unblockable Gigantic Hammer Rush Skill, fast blasts, and high damage per hit are more than enough to keep opponents on their toes. If given enough time, Broly can also perform Kakarottt! to immediately buff himself and enter Sparking Mode, thus getting instant access to his unguardable Ultimate Blast.

7. Vegito (Super) Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan

The first of the many fusions featured here, Vegito (Super) Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan ā€” or simply Vegito Blue ā€” is one of the most oppressive characters in Sparking Zero, given his unpredictable combos and ability to recover all of his ki by performing Full Power Charge. The latter also allows him to get an easy path to Sparking and enables the spamming of his God Kamehameha and Omega Finishing Blow for some devastating combos. As with most transformed fusions, Vegito also has access to six Skill gauges and boasts four health bars if chosen from the get-go.

6. Gogeta (Super) Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan

What happens when you pair the ability to perform highly unpredictable high-speed combos, one of the trickiest blasts to avoid in the game (screams at Stardust Explosion), Instant Transmission, and the high damage you can expect from a fusion? Well, you get Gogeta (Super) Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan.

But if that was not enough and to the delight of all who ā€” like me ā€” love the character, Gogeta has arguably the best mid-range blast game in Sparking Zero, with his charged one sending multiple high-speed projectiles capable of dealing damage on par with many characters’ non-charged beams.

5. Goku (Super) Ultra Instinct

Apart from the health boost the version gains when compared to Sign, Goku (Super) Ultra Instinct boasts one of the highest damage outputs in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, a feat that allows him to obliterate opponents by pairing his fast strikes with his quick draw Ultra Kamehameha and Ultra Barrage Rush Skill. As you can guess, he can also immediately buff his stats and enter Sparking by performing No Backing Down, thus guaranteeing that you can go all-out, non-stop.

The Ultra Instinct versions of Goku are also the only characters in the game capable of dodging regular Rush strikes without performing Sonic Sways or vanishes, which can be a great tool in the right hands.

4. Yajirobe

A low DP god, Yajirobe earns his spot given his unique ability to fully heal by using “Sanzu Bean”, which makes him both a phenomenal resource and the most frustrating character to face in the game. To put it mildly, when faced with the swordsman, getting hit by a simple Smash might mean having to climb the Korin Tower all over again.

But don’t go thinking that you can just pick him and excel, as even if “unkillable” for many, Yajirobe is by no means an easy pick and will demand an ample domain over the game’s defensive mechanics to make up for his low health and damage.

3. Jiren (Full Power)

As you can expect of the Tournament of Power’s strongest warrior, Jiren (Full Power) pairs some of the fastest rush combos in the game with a highly adaptable and effective Skill selection. Examples of that can be seen in his ability to counter Z-Bursts and Dragon Dashes by performing either Overwhelming Blast or his Ki Storm get-off move. His ability to get a huge amount of buffs and immediately enter Sparking by performing Strength is Absolute also means that true to his philosophy, there’s no right answer but to give it your all on the field when facing Jiren.

2. Super Vegito

The game’s current boogeyman, Super Vegito mixes the combo potential of his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form with the Afterimage Strike skill, which allows him to apply unmatched amounts of pressure while staying in control and dealing high damage at both close and long range. On the downside, although the above allows him to easily counter pretty much all matchups in the game, his inability to instantly trigger Sparking stops him from getting the number-one spot.

1. Gogeta (GT)

A character that brings to the table all of the biggest strengths of the Blue versions of Vegito and Gogeta, Gogeta (GT) ā€” or Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta ā€” pairs the fastest move set among the characters here with two devastating combo enders in his Ultimate Impact Rush Skill and almost instantaneous Big Bang Kamehameha.

But what if you manage to get the timing of his mixups right and escape one of his combos? Well, that’s only half the battle, as Gogeta can also get an auto evasion with Wild Sense and take his already massive damage output to new heights by activating Power Up to the Very Limit, which will automatically trigger Sparking and make sure he has more than enough for another go or even a TOD combo.
