THQ’s Metro 2033 looks pretty damn promising, but it also looks strangely familiar. The post-apocalyptic Russian shooter very clearly takes some cues from STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, and bears quite a few aesthetic similarities to games like Fallout 3 and Cryostasis. We spoke with THQ about the upcoming game, and the various comparisons that Metro 2033 has enjoyed since its announcement.
“I actually welcome these types of comparisons,” explains creative manager David Langeliers. “Fallout and STALKER are great games and it’s flattering to have Metro 2033 mentioned in the same sentence. It also gives us an opportunity to point out how they differ — while still taking place in a post apocalyptic world, Metro 2033 has an unique gameplay style and presentation that is completely different from any other game.”
Destructoid is checking out Metro 2033 this week, and we’re really looking forward to seeing exactly how different the game manages to be. So far, the game looks like it could be an incredible story-driven experience and I hope it can stand out amongst those other terrific shooters.
