Should you pick Action or Classic Mode in Throne and Liberty? All differences explained

Choose your adventure (type).

Throne and Liberty is Steam’s new free to play hit, and even though players will find plenty to like about it from the start, they might be caught off guard by having to choose between Action and Classic camera modes.

Let’s look into the differences between the two modes and help players choose the one most suiting of their playstyle.

What is Classic Mode in Throne and Liberty

As the name suggests, it’s the mode more in line with the camera controls you’d find in other ARPGs. While you use the WASD keys to move your character, the camera remains locked in an angle at all times until the player uses the mouse to click and drag it around. The camera will once again become locked to where it was when the player stops dragging it around.

The fixed angle makes it easier for players to click around on the map or to access any part of the interface. This is the mode more likely to suit those who like to see and have more control over the entire battlefield.

What is Action Mode in Throne and Liberty

Action mode will have the camera behave as it would in an over-the-shoulder third person action game, like Resident Evil 4 and Gears Of War. The camera moves along with your crosshair. This removes the need for dragging and dropping the camera, and allows players to more precisely target and to have an overall more immersive experience. This is the more modern approach to RPG gameplay, but not everything about it is more intuitive.

To access the UI, players using Action Mode will have to manually bring up the cursor, which might break the immersion for those looking for a full-on action experience.

What is the best camera mode in Throne and Liberty?

There’s really no better option. If you want a more action-y feel, you should go with Action. If you care more about better strategizing options than you care about immersion and responsiveness, then you should go with Classic mode. The good news is you’re never bound to either mode. A simple visit to the settings menu will allow you to switch modes.

My recommendation is that players give the other mode a try if they feel like there’s somethin missing with the mode they picked first.
