Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact delayed for rollback netcode inclusion

Rollback netcode is a necessity nowadays.

Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact, the fighting game based on the popular anime series, has been delayed into 2025. This is primarily based on the inclusion of rollback netcode into the game that many fans of the fighting genre request in modern-day titles.

“We sincerely apologize for the trouble caused by this delay to the players who are looking forward to the gameā€™s release,” said Arc System Works on X. “This delay is so that we will be able to implement rollback netcode for release.”

The development team also says that “[They] made this decision out of concern that players would not be able to fully enjoy the game in a state where some players would encounter issues with online play, given the nature of fighting games.”

Many fighting games in the PS4 era and earlier used delay-based netcode, a form of connectivity that relies upon each other’s internet. Rollback netcode alleviates possible issues by predicting the opponent’s next moves. More often than not, rollback netcode is far better.

Titles such as Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, and MultiVersus use rollback netcode to improve the quality of their online matches. Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact is thankfully following this trend. Arc System Works says that the release date will be announced at a later date.

Nen x Impact is a promising 3v3 fighter in the same vein as the Marvel vs Capcom series. It stars heroes like Gon and Killua fighting against members of the Phantom Troupe and the infamous Hisoka. It has a relatively good response from the FGC (fighting game community) at EVO 2024. The Exhibition video for Nen x Impact from EVO currently has around 1.6K likes and 25 dislikes. That’s a great ratio.
