The Questioning the Local Cats side quest can be picked up in Kakariko Village by talking to the old man by the village entrance. Be aware that youā€™ll need to have completed the Still Missing mainline quest before you can start this one, but since youā€™ll need certain echoes for this quest, itā€™s best you donā€™t have it until then anyway.

The old man is lamenting that his beloved cat has run off, and he canā€™t find them. Heā€™s asking for your help to get the coveted Cat Costume, which lets you talk to cats and ask the local kitties where his pet might be.

The Cat Costume you need is with the dark-haired woman out front of the townā€™s potion shop. Sheā€™ll give you the Cat Costume in exchange for retrieving her pouch. Youā€™ll need to move the kitty thatā€™s sleeping on the spot she buried it in.

To get the cat off the spot where the pouch is buried, youā€™ll want to make an echo of some grilled fish and place it somewhere nearby. You can find this echo in Seyside Village if you donā€™t have it from the Grilled Fish side quest. The cat will be enticed and get up to munch on their treat.

Then, using a Holmill echo, dig the hole where the cat was sleeping. This patch doesnā€™t have any grass on it, so it will be easy to find. As soon as the hole has been dug, the pouch will pop right up, and you can return it to its owner.

In gratitude, sheā€™ll give you her Cat Costume. Talk to the old man again, and heā€™ll let you keep it if you question Kakarikoā€™s felines for him to find his pet.Ā

All thatā€™s left is to find his missing pet. Equip the Cat Costume if you havenā€™t done so, and simply walk up to the many cats in town to ask them where he is. The cat that will give you the location is up on top of the windmill on the western side of the village.

The old manā€™s pet cat can be found on top of a tree along the east road that leads into Kakariko. This calico kitty will be snoozing on the top, so climb up to them however you want to chat with them. Theyā€™ll return back to the old man afterward. This completes the quest, and youā€™ll get to keep the Cat Costume.
