How to complete The Pirate’s Wife quest in Stardew Valley

Remembering lost loves.

Most of the quests in Stardew Valley are pretty straightforward to complete, but some are more riddle-esque, while others leave you outright guessing what you’re supposed to be doing.

Once you’ve completed the Community Center bundles (or paid off JojaMart, if you’re inclined that way), you will be able to repair Willy’s boat and make your way to Ginger Island. There’s a lot of new things to do on the island and people to meet, with many giving you new objectives and quests.

One of these people is Birdie, who lives in a hut on the western side of the island. Speaking to Birdie will automatically provide you with a quest to complete called “The Pirate’s Wife”, which can seem pretty confusing. However, this is a quest that you should definitely do because it gives some pretty worthwhile rewards.

When you speak to Birdie, she’ll tell you that she wants to find a keepsake which once belonged to her husband, who was presumably a pirate. Unfortunately, finding it isn’t as simple as heading to a specified location, and instead requires you to work your way through an NPC-centric scavenger hunt of sorts.

After talking to Birdie, you’ll be in possession of a photograph depicting a soldier washed up on a beach. This is a War Memento, and you need to take this to a specific villager to swap it for something else. To finish the quest, you’ll need to do this six times, swapping items with villagers until you eventually come into possession of the keepsake which Birdie is after.

Although the intended recipient of each item should be obvious from the item itself, it’s easy to get confused, so here’s the order in which you’ll get each item and who you need to give it to:

ItemRecipient
War MementoKent
Gourmet Tomato SaltGus
Stardew Valley RoseSandy
Advanced TV RemoteGeorge
Arctic ShardThe Wizard
Wriggling WormWilly

After giving the Wriggling Worm to Willy, he’ll give you a Pirate’s Locket. This is the keepsake that Birdie has been after, so you’re to return to Ginger Island and give it to her to complete The Pirate’s Wife.

Most importantly, completing The Pirate’s Wife will reward you with five Golden Walnuts, which you’ll need if you want to eventually gain access to Qi’s Walnut Room

Other than this, you’ll also unlock the recipe for Fairy Dust, which is an incredibly useful item, because it enables you to instantly complete any process on a lot of the machinery on your farm.

The only exceptions to this are:

  • Incubators
  • Ostrich Incubators
  • Slime Incubators
