Omeda Studios celebrates Predecessor’s official launch at Gamescom Opening Night Live

It's finally time to become Paragon.

Developer Omeda Studios has celebrated the official launch of its MOBA Predecessor out of early access and into full 1.0 with a launch trailer that debuted during Gamescom 2024’s Opening Night Live. The game has been in early access or beta since 2022.

The new trailer showcases exactly what Predecessor can offer players, with a massive roster of 35 characters to pick up, player as, and level up through matches. Omeda Studios’ CEO Robbie Singh explained, “To say that we are beyond thrilled to have Predecessor launch into 1.0 would be an understatement.” With the game now available on PC, PS4, PS5, box One, and Xbox Series X/S with full crossplay, there’s a lot for long-time fans and newcomers to explore.

A different perspective on the MOBA genre

Singh added that this launch only marks yet another chapter in the long journey ahead Omeda Studios has planned for the game.

When we took on this dream of building Predecessor into what it is today, we knew the challenges and time required from us to not only develop a unique third-person MOBA that we wanted to experience but what the community expected from us. For over six years, we worked directly with the community to help us develop Predecessor, so we want to thank them for their ongoing support, commitment and love for the game. Today may be the game’s launch, but our work is just starting as we’ll be continuously building upon this amazing MOBA and looking forward to sharing what we have coming down the road.

Omeda Studios has been working with the bits and pieces left over from Epic Games’ third-person MOBA, Paragon, which it shut down to focus on Fortnite. Epic Games offered Paragon‘s assets freely to any developer that wanted to use them, and Omeda Studios has done just that while working to improve on the game and build a MOBA that’s attracted over 2 million fans with its fantastic new and old characters, superb sound design, and growing roster of game modes.

If you didn’t play Paragon before it was shut down, you might not realize why so many fans were gutted about losing it. Predecessor resurrects everything that was great about the game, such as the meaty combat and gorgeous character design.

Omeda Studios is constantly adding to the game at a pace that doesn’t feel too fast, so you can learn new heroes as they drop. The monetization with new skins is also quite slow-paced, meaning you have time to get to learn and love a hero and don’t have dozens of skins to unlock or buy for them all at once. The video above shows what might be my favorite set so far, all of them themed around undead pirates and creepy sea stories.
