Warframe: 1999 prologue quest The Lotus Eaters offers a glimpse of the expansion in August

Play and prepare to enter Warframe: 1999.

Developer Digital Extremes blew fans away with a slew of announcements and reveals during TennoCon 2024. One of the most exciting is a surprise new quest that’ll be hitting the game in early August. This quest will give players who are ready and waiting for Warframe: 1999 a way to prepare for the upcoming expansion.

The new quest is called The Lotus Eaters and is a prologue to Warframe: 1999 that will set up the story for those who have already tackled everything through to the end of Whispers in the Walls. At the time of writing, I don’t have an exact date for the release of this new quest, but Digital Extremes has confirmed that players will meet back up with one of the game’s most iconic characters.

Get up to date so you don’t miss out

Unfortunately, Digital Extremes hasn’t revealed anything more about The Lotus Eaters to help us understand exactly what we’ll be doing. With the character in the key art above bearing a striking resemblance to one you meet very early on in your journey as a Tenno, it seems pretty obvious who we’ll be meeting once more. With that said, Digital Extremes is playing this one extremely close to the chest, so this might also be a red herring to throw us off the scent.

You must have completed Whispers in the Walls to play The Lotus Eaters. While that doesn’t mean you need to finish every quest in Warframe, it does mean you must complete the main storyline right up until the end of that storyline. However, this is a good excuse to finish it because it’s a banger. This is core story content, so you’ll need to know everything that’s happened so far to unlock what’s next and make sense of it all.

The Lotus Eaters will be released with Sevagoth Prime. This latest Prime Warframe is one that fans have been waiting to see for a long time. If you’ve been holding out on Prime Access until a truly worthy Warframe entered it, this is your excuse to sign up and pick up a fantastic and powerful one for the new quest.

While The Lotus Eaters isn’t going to be a substantial quest like Whispers in the Walls was, it’ll add to the story and get you back into the game, grinding or paying for access to Sevagoth Prime. I was told by Digital Extremes staff at TennoCon 2024 that anyone who isn’t up to date for Warframe: 1999 is going to want to be because it’s incredibly special. Consider this prologue quest your excuse to do exactly that.
