No game series in the world is more beautifully buttered up than Chō Aniki, and these beefy boys are about to mount the comeback of our dreams. After a sly tease, Edia officially revealed plans for Chō Aniki Collection on Nintendo Switch.
There’s no release date in place yet, but the collection promises Switch ports of the first two PC Engine games, Chō Aniki and Ai Chō Aniki. According to the newly-launched official website, the Switch versions aim to recreate the feel of the originals as closely as possible. New features that will appeal to a wide range of players are planned, but no further details were divulged.
Ab-solute leg-acy
You know who never skips leg day? The men of Chō Aniki. That’s been evident since the first entry in the series dropped on PC Engine back in 1992 as a horizontal shoot ’em up that absolutely delivers on its impressive package. Much of the series has remained in Japan, but there are a few entries that made their way stateside, even if some were left untranslated. In the unofficial world, last year saw the launch of a fan translation for Super Famicom entry Chō Aniki: Bakuretsu Rantou Hen.
There’s still some work to be done before Chō Aniki can make its glorious return. The next step is a crowdfunding campaign, which is set to launch via Makuake. At the time of this writing it’s just listed as “coming soon,” but you can sign up to be notified. The description says they want to spread the masterpiece shooter to the world, so hopefully that means we’ll all be oiling up for action in the not-too-distant future.
