The Karate Kid: Street Rumble revisits the past in pixel beat ’em up fashion

The Karate Kid gets in on the 16-bit throwback brawler trend.

It’s time to wax on and wax off to improve your beat ’em up skills, as The Karate Kid: Street Rumble kicks its way onto the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on September 20, 2024. This retro-style brawler relives the original movie trilogies’ sights and sounds in pixel style.

This beat ’em up, like TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge and the upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind has some gorgeous 16-bit graphics. Fittingly, it will also have a chiptune soundtrack.

The Karate Kid: Street Rumble will feature 12 levels with up to four-player local co-op. You can play as Daniel Russo, Mr. Miyagi, Kumiko, and Ali Mills. The confirmed bosses that will challenge you along the way include Johnny Lawrence, John Kreese, and Terry Silver, among others. Hopefully, fear does not exist in your game room.

Confirmed levels for this game so far include Topanga Beach, West Valley High, Cobra Kai Dojo, and the All-Valley Tournament. We’ll be venturing into Okinawa as well.

Something to keep in mind is this is coming from publisher GameMill Entertainment, which doesn’t have the best track record. The last adaptation from this franchise Cobra Kai 2: Dojos Rising, currently has a 41% rating on Steam from a meager 41 user reviews.

The Karate Kid Street Rumbles releases for all major consoles this September.

The Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl series from GameMill Entertainment is fairly decent, however. “Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2Ā is worth trying out,” said our review.

The Karate Kid: Street Rumble is targeting September 20 for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC.
