The shot meter is a very useful tool that is activated by default. When you attempt a shot (usually a jump shot), a bar appears on top of the player. This measures a combination of power and timing of the throw, which determines if there will be a successful basket or not. Ideally, this meter is useful for most players, but there are some reasons behind turning it off.

Turning off the NBA 2K24 shot meter is pretty easy

As mentioned earlier, the shot meter is always turned on by default. This is applicable to all the NBA 2K24 game modes. To turn it off, head to the controller settings. This can be done from the main screen or from within an active match. Just press the pause button (the start button on your controller) and browse right to find settings.

From there, go to controller settings, and you’ll find the correct option. Toggle the on button to off, and that’s all. When you attempt a jump shot, there won’t be any meter appearing on top of a player’s head. There have been some cases in which overriding the default settings doesn’t always save if you do it from within a match. Hence, it’s best to do the job from the settings option on the main screen.

Should you turn off the shot meter in NBA 2K24

This usually depends on how experienced you are with the NBA 2K franchise. For beginners, the shot meter is vital as they don’t know much about throw timings. The meter usually has a green part – any throw timed within the green indicator will go in. Of course, this green portion varies from across players, shot types, and other factors.

Once you’re very well-experienced, the shot meter loses its usefulness. With enough experience, you would know just when to throw by watching the on-screen animations. Additionally, the meter could handicap your judgment as you have to keep checking the meter instead of the player throwing the ball.

In the long run, you can definitely turn the meter off from aiding your throws. If you’re just getting started with NBA 2K24, I would advise against turning it off.
