Zombies: Modern Warfare 2 won’t have them

Don’t expect zombies to appear in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. As explained by lead multiplayer designer Todd Alderman at a recent press event, Infinity Ward isn’t down with breaking their game’s fiction with the inclusion of otherworldly creatures or objects. It simply isn’t what Infinity Ward wants to do with this game, he said, but the studio is open to it in the future (with a different game, silly).

“We like to keep it consistent and in the same universe,” Alderman told NowGamer.com, when asked to share his thoughts about the zombies in Call of Duty: World at War.

“It depends on what it is. For us it didn’t fit in our game. We have Spec Ops which is our off-the-storyline path, but it’s just not our bag really. We like to keep it consistent and in the same universe, not to say that we wouldn’t do something like that in the future, but for what we are doing right now it’s just not something we’d do. “

Alderman went on to say that the goal was to have components of the game compliment each other. In his words, “if you have ray-guns and teleporters it’s not going to help.”

The apparent success of the “Nazi Zombie” mode in World at War challenges that thought, but we like it when a developer sticks with the game’s universe. Think about how terrible Uncharted would have been if Naughty Dog suddenly dropped aliens or whatever into the later chapters.
