How to promote Agents in Zenless Zone Zero

Agents are the characters you’ll unlock to play with in missions in Zenless Zone Zero. The game’s gacha mechanic revolves around earning Master Tapes to pull for them from banners, but the odds are never really in your favor. Once you have them, you can promote them, but it’s not a simple process.

Every Agent you unlock in Zenless Zone Zero has levels. As you might expect with any game with RPG elements like this, leveling up those Agents strengthens them and improves their combat skills. Eventually, you’ll need to promote them as part of an in-game objective, for a trophy on PS5, and because you won’t get very far unless you push them to be better. Doing so is a complicated process, though, mainly because of the nature of the resources required.

How to promote Agents in Zenless Zone Zero

To promote an Agent in Zenless Zone Zero, you must first level them up to their current maximum level. If they’re a new Agent, then this is level 10. After that, you can promote them when you select their level again, but you must have the right resources to promote them.

One of the resources required for agent promotion is always Dennies. This is the game’s raw cash, and you probably have enough to promote anyone, considering how much of it gets thrown around. I had to spend 24,000 Dennies to promote Corin for the first time, but the required amount increases with each promotion.

The second resource you need is a type of Certification Seal. For Corin, this was the Basic Offense Certification Seal, but the type of Certification Seal changes depending on the Agent’s specialization. You can get these by taking on missions and beating enemies in the Agent Promotion Combat Simulations at the HIA Club.

You’ll unlock the HIA Club soon after meeting Nekomata in the main story during Prologue Chapter 1. These short combat encounters are easy to beat, especially if you’ve got powerful Agents, and you can farm them for ages as long as you keep your battery topped up with coffee.

The only limit to Agent promotion is your resources. You’ll have enough to push an Agent’s levels up for a while, but at some point, you’ll need to stop and farm for resources so you can upgrade them to the next promotion. I’d advise taking your time because once you’ve hit your limit, you’ll be gagging for that sense of progression once more.
