When we think of gaming’s greatest villains, there are a few that come to mind.

Bowser, Eggman, and Kefka are some of the biggest players out there, but The First Descendant has unleashed a villain so repugnant that his name alone instills feelings of fear and revulsion: Greg. Here’s how to “beat” Greg the Star-Crossed.

Instance Guide – Calling of the Descendant: Slumber Valley

You’ll run into Greg the Star-Crossed towards the end of the story section in Kingston. More specifically, he’s located in “Calling of the Descendant: Slumber Valley” in Grand Square. On Normal difficulty, this is a level nine instance. You can opt to run it solo or team up with three other players. Either way you slice it, the instance can typically be done in under 15 minutes, especially if you have higher-level players.

Each room leading up to Greg requires either killing every enemy inside or destroying the Vulgus Technology Device and its guards. With each third of its life erased, the device will become immune. Wipe out the current wave of enemies to make it vulnerable again.

Greg will appear in the final room and has three bars of health. As each bar is cleared, he will spawn a trio of orbs and become immune. Focus your fire on the orbs to break the barrier and lay into Greg once more. While dealing with the orbs, make sure to eliminate any minions and revive your teammates as the run is over should everyone fall.

There are two main attacks to worry about. The first is an orbital strike where a red ring will appear around your character and three lasers raining down on you. As the lasers merge into one, the attack is getting closer. Keep sprinting or roll away at the last moment to avoid being hit. There is a small AoE effect, so keep moving to clear it and try to stay away from team members so they don’t get hit either.

While Greg is happy to spam the orbital strike, he will also leap to the middle of the arena and create a large AoE of pain. This typically occurs when he loses a bar of life and is about to summon the orbs, but can happen sporadically as well.

Greg the Star-Crossed, a villain among villains, is a big dude that hits quite hard. Keep moving, don’t let him get too close, and manage the orbital striker properly to come out ahead. I’m just hoping there’s no one tougher up the Vulgus chain of command, like Ted from HR.
