Activision — or someone with some pull — has sneakily changed the name of the Wii version of developer Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex. The new name is a mouthful and a mystery. We haven’t the slightest idea why it was changed.
Earlier this morning, CVG spotted the name change in a press release announcing the plethora of videogames coming to the Wii this holiday season. Dated the 15th, the press release didn’t reveal anything we shouldn’t already know: Activision sent us images of the box art a few weeks prior to today with the new branding. We just plain didn’t catch the change.
GameStop.com has changed the name of the on its Web site, and a PR representative was kind enough to give us quadruple confirmation this afternoon when we asked if Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex was the new name. The representative didn’t comment, however, on why it changed.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex is still hitting on November 10th.
