How to get Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends

Heirloom Shards are required to unlock Heirlooms in Apex Legends.

Apex Legends follows a free-to-play live-service model, where each season introduces a new season and collection events that are filled with cosmetic items such as character and weapon skins, emotes, skydive animations, and more. The game features various levels of rarity per item, but the rarest items in the game are none other than Heirlooms.

What are Heirlooms in Apex Legends?

Heirlooms are cosmetic items and each Heirloom is uniquely crafted for a Legend in the game. Wraith’s Kunai, Bloodhound’s Raven’s Bite Axe, Caustic’s Death Hammer, Crypto’s Biwon Blade, and Lifeline’s Shock Sticks are some of the Heirlooms available in Apex Legends. These Heirlooms replace the basic melee weapon stance for a player, as melee attack animations as well as other animations for when the weapon is holstered, are replaced by the Heirloom.

How to get an Heirloom in Apex Legends?

To get an Heirloom in Apex Legends, players require Heirloom Shards. This is an extremely rare currency to obtain in Apex Legends. There are two ways to obtain Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends.

Players can either earn them by opening Apex Packs, or they can buy all 24 themed items in a collection event, and if Heirloom Shards are up for grabs, players will automatically receive them upon completing the collection.

How to get Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends?

Getting Heirloom Shards by getting all 24 items is an expensive way, but it is still cheaper than opening Apex Packs and trying your luck. However, there is also a set probability in Apex Legends for opening lootboxes. The chances of getting Heirloom Shards out of an Apex Pack are 1 out of 500, which are not great odds.

However, Respawn Entertainment has a mercy timer, meaning that each time a player opens a pack, the chances to pull a high rarity item continue to accumulate. So in Apex Legends, there is a guarantee that one in every 500 packs will have Heirloom Shards.

Another way to put it is, if you have opened 499 packs without getting the Heirloom Shards, the 500th pick will have a 100% chance to give you Heirloom Shards. Once you receive Heirloom Shards in a pack, those odds are reset to 1 out of 500 again.

Players can open packs in Apex Legends by earning them through level progression, season battle pass, and event rewards, or they can simply head to the store and purchase packs.

You get 150 Heirloom Shards from a pack, and the same amount is required to unlock an Heirloom. After getting 150 Heirloom Shards, players can choose which Legend’s Heirloom they wish to unlock.
