There’s nothing worse than jumping on your PC to play a game of VALORANT just to find that the servers are down, but thanks to the VAN 84 error that is plaguing Riot’s FPS, that’s what’s happening.
The error is appearing whenever you try to boot up the game, greeting you with a screen that reads: “Connection error. VALORANT has encountered a connection error. Please relaunch the client to reconnect.” Unfortunately, even if you close down the client and try again, you’ll be met with the same problem.
Even worse, it’s not clear what’s causing this issue right now, as Riot has yet to comment on it to confirm that they’re aware of it or working on a fix. Speculation is running rife that it could be linked to VALORANT‘s Vanguard anti-cheat system, but this is unconfirmed.
So far, it’s been radio silence from Roit, with nothing on their official X account about the outage. Even their official server status page fails to mention the problem, leaving us all in the dark about what’s going on.
Unsurprisingly, social media is filled with unhappy VALORANT players asking the developer what’s going on, and pleading for them to fix the problem. It’s not just the FPS that’s affected either, with League of Legends players also complaining on X about the VAN 84 error.
For now, there’s not much we can do but sit tight and wait for Riot to fix the problem. We’ll be sure to update this article as soon as we hear anything from the developer, or the servers are restored. In the meantime, sign up for the VALORANT console limited beta so you try the game on a new platform when the servers are finally up.
