What are the best Demons to use in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance?

During the beginning stages of SMT V: Vengeance, your choices for Demons are reasonably limited. However, you’ll stumble across even more fiends as you get farther into the story. For our best-of list, we’ll start out with the best Demons to use in the early parts of the game and then gradually work up through the higher levels.

Neko Shogun

Although you may be distracted by Neko Shogun’s adorableness, this Demon is a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. Its dynamic skill set makes it a top choice in the early stages of SMT V: Vengeance. I particularly leverage Neko Shogun’s Sukunda ability for buffs. This talent, which lowers an enemy’s accuracy and evasion, is a strategic powerhouse, bolstering your defense and empowering your team. Lastly, use Neko Shogun’s Freikugel EX attack to defeat enemies instantly when the Magatsuhi is filled up.

Rakshasa

Rakshasa’s Counter ability is one of the main reasons why I frequently use this Demon. This technique counters a strength-based attack with a Physical strike, dealing an extra blow whenever an opponent hits an ally. Sometimes, you only need one more attack to eliminate an enemy, and Rakshasa can often provide that. The Demon generally excels in Physical Attacks, a common weakness for most opponents.

Apsaras

Apsaras is another teammate I often equip due to its versatile range of talents. You can add healing abilities to her skill set, like Patra, to cure status ailments. Or, use the creature’s defensive Tarunda to lower an enemy’s attack.

Foes that are weak to Ice will go down quickly with Apsaras’ multiple icy attacks. This will be helpful during the Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance’s early stages, in which many opponents will be vulnerable against Ice strikes.

Manananggal

As you progress in SMT V: Vengeance, you’ll unlock more robust Demons like Manananggal. She comes with some of the best Magic stats in the game, which are perfect for opponents who are weak to it.

But the main reason why she is one of the best is her Sanguine Drain. The talent significantly drains a foe’s HP, lowering their attack for three turns. This strike will undoubtedly benefit those demanding boss fights throughout your adventures.

Mothman

In hindsight, Mothman may not look like much, but it actually has a highly beneficial ability. This technique is none other than Me Patra, which doesn’t often appear in a Demon’s skill set. The healing tactic cures all status ailments for all allies, eliminating statuses like Confusion, Charm, and Sleep.

I can’t tell you how many times my entire party was inflicted by status ailments. Then, Mothman miraculously saved the day with its emergency toolkit.

Oni

For an all-around fighter, Oni is best to use for Physical strikes in SMT V: Vengeance. It has pretty decent stats for Strength and Vitality to make rounds go by much faster.

No matter what, Oni always seems to deal a hefty amount of damage with its Heavy Blow and Crusher Onslaught. The second ability also lowers an enemy’s accuracy to throw off their offensive strategies.

Naga Raja

If you’re looking for a good Electric attacker, Naga Raja is a suitable choice. You can use its Elec Pleroma Passive to increase the damage of its Shockbound attack. Naja Raja’s other Passive, Thunderous Melody, can further boost these damage rates when striking an Electric weakness. Not to mention that the Demon’s stats are pretty high in Strength, Vitality, and Magic.

Yoshitsune

Yoshitsune has some of the best abilities in the Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. Its Hassou Tobi attack can be absolutely brutal, dealing eight Physical attacks to foes with a guaranteed Critical hit. The Demon also comes with Pierce Armor, which can inflict damage and lower an enemy’s defense for three turns.

In addition to its attacks, Yoshitsune’s stats are pretty handy. The Demon’s Strength and Agility are quite high, resulting in higher Physical attacks and more successful hits.
