How to complete Dissent in Destiny 2: The Final Shape

Descend into madness.

The Dissent storyline is one of the last main campaign quests in Destiny 2: The Final Shape. It’s a fairly challenging mission filled with a ton of formidable enemies and maze-like layouts. To help guide you through it, here’s how to complete Dissent in Destiny 2: The Final Shape.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape Dissent mission guide

For a complete overview of the Dissent quest, we’ll break down each step in Destiny 2: The Final Shape.

Step 1: Forge a path and defeat the Tempest’s Beloved

The first part of the Dissent quest takes you to the Transgression area. Follow the waypoints and eliminate the enemies along its pathway. You’ll then need to ‘Summon Targe’ when approaching the Veiled Statue. Another Veiled Statue will be ahead, resulting in a fight against the Tempest’s Beloved.

You will activate a de-buff, Howling Plague of the Witness, on your way there. This ability prohibits long jumps, health regeneration, and running. Just try to get inside as fast as possible to negate this effect.

The Tempest’s Beloved can be relatively challenging to defeat due to the area’s small space. I find it best to perform melee kills on the smaller enemies, as it drops the Diamond Lance. Throw this weapon at the boss to temporarily stun them, allowing you to deal significant damage.

Interact with the Veiled Statue and start heading outside. The Howling Plague of the Witness will reappear, so try your best to get inside for cover. Another Veiled Statue can be found here, but it won’t be accessible from the ground level. Jump up the building and position yourself by the stairs to summon the Targe.

Step 2: Push farther into the storm

After summoning the Targe, look to the left to spot a new opening. Be warned, the outside can be overwhelming due to the abundance of enemy hordes.

The Howling Plague of the Witness will also come up again, limiting almost all your movements. Slow and steady wins the race here, where you should gradually navigate through the storm. Since health won’t be regenerated here, use the surrounding terrain as a shield.

The main thing you’re looking for is an entrance at the top-right corner of the location.

Defeat the nearby enemies and then jump to the second level. The following Veiled Statue will be located in this room, opening the pathway right across it. Head down to the following location and use the Transcend ability to eliminate the Bound Captains. Go to the upper level to interact with another Veiled Statue.

Step 3: Eliminate the Wizards

As you progress further in the Destiny 2: The Final Shape Dissent mission, you must defeat three Wizards. Enter the rooms on the left and ride side to eliminate the first two. Another one will be located on the northern side.

Fortunately, eliminating these enemies shouldn’t be too difficult, taking you to the quest’s next phase.

Step 4: Acquire the Aegis and defeat the Pillar of Devotion

Eventually, you’ll trigger a boss fight against the Pillar of Devotion. You won’t be able to inflict any damage on this opponent initially. Therefore, you must defeat the two Subjugators to unlock the Aegis. They’ll be marked with waypoints, making it easier to find them.

The Aegis shield relic unlocks after defeating the two enemies. Pick it up and use its projectile launch to remove the Pillar of Devotion’s shield.

Once the Pillar of Devotion’s health bar is halfway, you must kill two Subjugators again. Use Transcend to kill them this time, and the relic will unlock. Repeat the same process to get rid of its shield.

Step 5: Save Zavala

When it’s time to save Zavala, players must quickly run to the next area as the pathways disappear. If you have enough time, you can also claim the Facet of Devotion at the end of the hallway (to the left of the waypoint.)

Continue to escape the area and locate Zavala for a special cutscene. This will conclude Dissent in Destiny 2: The Final Shape, thus beginning the Iconoclasm questline. You’ll also be one step closer to post-game content, including Patrols and the Wild Card mission.
