Wuthering Wave’s Pity system explained

In Wuthering Waves, you’ll receive new Resonators by participating in gacha events and pulling for weapons and characters. However, it’s not uncommon to run into a dry streak that has you wondering when you’ll get the Resonator or weapon you want.

Fortunately, this is where the pity system guarantees you’ll get the five-star character you’re looking for.

What is the Pity System?

Pity in Wuthering Waves is a system that allows you to get a guaranteed five-star character or weapon after 80 convenes. While you can get a five-star before this point, reaching 80 guarantees ensures you won’t go without a reward for hundreds of pulls. While you’re not initially guaranteed to get an event’s featured character from the pity system, the odds increase to 50 percent once you get a pity roll.

There’s also another layer to the pity system. If you activate the pity system and don’t get the featured Resonator on your first go, the next activation guarantees your next five-star will be the featured one. In other words, if you’re determined to get a particular Resonator from an event, such as Jiyan or Yinlin, you’ll eventually get it if you reach pity twice.

The exception to this is the Novice Convene, which grants you a guaranteed five-star Resonator for every 50 Convenes. That way, if you’re a beginner player who wants a head start on obtaining powerful five-star characters or weapons, it’ll be much easier to reach pity if you don’t have the best luck with your gacha pulls.

How to get a guaranteed 5-star character or weapon

Alongside the pity system, Wuthering Waves has targeted Convene events, allowing you to choose the character you get after 80 Convenes. That way, if you want a particular Resonator, you can guarantee you’ll get that specific character once you activate pity. 

The first time you’ll encounter this is during the Beginner’s Choice Convene, which offers the five following Selector Resonators:

• Jianxin
• Calcharo
• Verina
• Lingyang
• Encore

By picking one of these five characters during the Beginner’s Choice Convene, your next pity roll will include your chosen Resonator. You can also do this with Weapon targeted Convenes if you need a particular weapon for one of your characters.
