MW3’s Gundam teaser may be hinting at classic 2009 map remake

Hidden in plain sight?

We’re on the road to Modern Warfare 3 Season 4, so it’s no surprise that teasers for new content are already dropping. With a Gundam crossover already confirmed, CoD fans think the image released to announce it may hint at a classic 2009 MW3 map: Arkaden.

The image, released on May 19, shows the large shadow of a Gundam suit on the side of a building. It seems to be the side of a shopping complex in Japan, with the signage all written in Japanese. This got the brains of some CoD fans whirring, with immediate suggestions that this may not just be the teaser reveal for Gundam, but also a showcase of a new map.

If you think back through the history of the Modern Warfare series, there’s already been a map set in a shopping mall, which is Arkaden from MW3. With classic CoD maps already appearing in this year’s game, it makes perfect sense for it to return, and some players are convinced it’s happening.

The idea first appeared on Reddit when Herr_Fredolin wrote: “This map in the background looks a little bit like Arkaden, possible remake in Season 4?” This quickly gained traction, with players voicing their agreement with the idea, writing: “I’d love to see Arkaden,” and “I just want to play Arkaden again.”

Of course, we’ll have to wait for official confirmation from Activision to see if Arkaden really is coming back, but it would make a lot of sense, and the fact that they included a building that we know isn’t currently in MW3 can’t have just happened by accident.

We’ve already seen hints about the Kar98k sniper rifle‘s return, so dropping this teaser to build hype before the Season 4 blog drops seems like the perfect way to get people ready for the seasonal update. Personally, I’m all aboard the hype train on this one, and I’m counting down the minutes until the blog drops, which is expected this week.
