Dambuster promises ‘more Dead Island 2 content to come’ in first anniversary announcement

Well, would you look at that.

Dead Island 2 had been a long, long time coming before it was finally released, but the game ended up being fairly solid in the end. Now, a full year after its release, developer Dambuster celebrates the occasion by revealing that there’s “more Dead Island 2 content to come!”

According to Dambuster’s recent Steam blog post, over 7 million players have played Dead Island 2 within the past year. This resulted in the delightfully efficient destruction of over 24 billion virtual zombies: a feat that was no doubt aided by the release of two expansion packs which propped the game up as months went on. The subsequent Steam release is sure to have helped, too, as the game was a timed Epic Games Store exclusive. Initially, only the SoLA and HAUS DLCs appear to have been planned for the game (alongside a wealth of other, smaller micro-DLCs), but more is now on the way, thanks to Dead Island 2‘s success.

Dead Island 2 is getting more content than initially expected

While Dambuster’s statement isn’t particularly loaded with details, it is clear that some type of content is yet to come to Dead Island 2 down the line. “In the following months we’ll share some exciting and long awaited new game updates, so stay tuned for more Dead Island 2 content to come,” reads the blog.

This could be taken to mean that Dambuster has some amount of bonus post-launch content in the pipeline, set to be delivered over the next couple of patches. Conversely, it could also suggest that there’s a HAUS or SoLA-sized DLC in the oven, and we just don’t have enough information to go on just yet. A full-featured new game+ mode, for example, sounds like something that’d feel natural in Dead Island 2.

Fans of the zombie-slaying FPS do have something to look forward to regardless, then. More information on the what and the why of Dead Island 2‘s second batch of post-launch content will be coming relatively soon, so stay tuned.
