Capcom has published its financial results for the 2024 fiscal year, and it looks to have been another very successful period for the company. In fact, Capcom could confirm it has enjoyed seven consecutive years of record-high profits, and it even sold more video games than it’s ever had before.
So you know, Capcom’s 2024 fiscal year covers the period from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024. The publisher announced its financial results in a May 9 press release, saying it made 152,410 million yen (roughly $977 million / Ā£782 million) in net sales during those 12 months. That’s 21% more than it made last year.
As for how many games it sold in that time, Capcom managed to push 45.89 million units in total. Street Fighter 6 (which launched in June 2023) and Dragon’s Dogma 2 (March 2024) were unsurprisingly big contributors to this, selling 3,305,000 units and 2,622,000 units respectively. However, according to this Capcom presentation, they were only the second and fourth best-selling Capcom games of the 2024 fiscal year. Capcom’s best performer was the Resident Evil 4 remake at 3,392,000 units sold, with lifetime sales over seven million. It had launched right before the end of the 2023 fiscal year, so it’s long-term popularity bled into the 2024 fiscal year. Capcom also confirmed the Monster Hunter series as a whole has surpassed the 100 million sales mark.
While this is all good news for Capcom, it also means it has higher expectations for the 2025 fiscal year. It has a net sales target of 165,000 million yen, which is approximately $1,058 million / Ā£847 million. As for how it intends to achieve such growth, it so far plans to capitalise on its key brands, specifically naming Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and Dragon’s Dogma.
Capcom’s release schedule is looking rather sparse at the moment though. It does have Monster Hunter Wilds, the next major entry in the series, planned for 2025, and that’s expected to bring in a lot of money given the series’ reputation and popularity. Aside from that, Capcom has the re-releases of the two Monster Hunter Stories spin-off RPGs in June and a brand-new IP in Kunitsugami: Path of the Goddess, which should be out before the end of 2024 . There’s also the long-delayed sci-fi game Pragmata, but Capcom has made no mention of it since last year. Obviously, Capcom has more projects in the works it simply hasn’t announced yet, and we’re bound to see at least one or two reveals soon what with Summer Game Fest around the corner.
