Arrowhead Game Studios today announced the Polar Patriots Warbond for Helldivers 2, which will be released late next week, just in time for players to buy the new gear they need for the weekend.
Helldivers 2‘s fifth Warbond is a week away, bringing with it a host of hot new items that look like they’d be worn during the Battle of Hoth. Every new piece of gear, from Capes to submachine guns, has a lighter look, but that doesn’t mean they can’t bring the heat. The optional Warbond adds a wide range of gear to collect, including incendiary and energy-based weapons.
The Polar Patriots Warbond hits Helldivers 2 in time for next weekend
The Polar Patriots Warbond will be available in Helldivers 2 on May 9, 2024. That should give all players enough time to save up the Medals needed to unlock the items they want from its pages after they purchase it. If it’s in line with previous Warbonds, it’ll cost 1,000 Super Credits, which will set you back $7.99/Ā£7.99 if, like me, you haven’t saved the ones earned from previous Warbonds.
While the weapons in this Warbond look nice, I think it’s the armor that will surprise us. At the beginning of the above trailer you can see industrial crampons on the gear sets, indicating that they’ll have a new perk that could help out on icy worlds. I certainly wouldn’t say no to the assistance.
According to the PlayStation Blog post accompanying this trailer, we’ll also be getting a new Booster: Motivational Shocks. the Booster shocks Helldivers out of their slowed stupor after being hit by or trudging through Terminid vomit. It won’t help in EMS fields, though.
We get a little look at three of those weapons, though. The P-113 Verdict is a meaty-looking pistol that makes short work of smaller enemies. Hopefully, it’s a decent alternative sidearm because I’m getting sick of my submachine gun.
The AR-61 Tenderizer is a new assault rifle, but I’m most excited about the SMG-72 Pummeler. This is a new primary weapon with a much higher rate of fire than we’re used to, so I’d expect it to rip enemies apart pretty quickly.
Finally, there’s the Plas-101 Purifier. This energy-based weapon appears to tear enemies apart and could be the solution to Scout Striders that we’ve all been looking for. Just watch out while using a shield backpack. We’re also getting a new thrown weapon, the G-13 Incendiary Impact, which I’m desperate to get my hands on. Helldivers 2 has had incendiary grenades since launch, but it’s been in need of one that also packs a punch like this.
If you’ve been trying to run a Helldiver with some color in their uniform, then this is your dream Warbond. I really love the look of the gear sets in this one, much more than the dreary, though well-armored, sets we’ve had in the past.
