Warzone tournaments may get more exciting soon, as a Season 3 leak hints at the return of additional customization options for pro players.
CoD content creator Repullze substantiated a leak by wzTotalFrenzy and confirmed that custom duos and trios would return to Warzone during Season 3. Currently, players only have the option to create custom lobbies for quads. The only way for pro players to play in any squad size for a tournament is if it is hosted by Activision. Additionally, these returning custom squad sizes will also reportedly have the option to use the matchpoint format, which has recently skyrocketed in popularity. The 2023, WSOW and other major WZ2 tournaments used a scoring system that gave points for every elimination, and that score was multiplied based on their final placement in the match.
In contrast, the match point format awards one point per elimination and a separate set amount of points based on placement. For example, squads earn 15 points for placing first or 10 for placing second. Eliminating the multiplier makes it easier for fans to track how many points their favorite team has. Then, once a team reaches 100 points, they must win an additional match to secure the victory officially.
So even if one team is the first to reach 100 points, other squads still have a chance to catch up until someone wins the final match. As a result, multiple teams can reach the 100-point threshold, and winning one final game becomes an intense race. The format forces competitors to be more aggressive than the Solo Yolo format, where the only important thing is staying alive until the end, and also is much easier to follow than the standard system.
As for when players could expect this change to go live, Season 3 Reloaded is expected to start on May 1. Repullze did not provide a release date for the new feature, but it would make the most sense for Raven Software to include it in the mid-season update.
